La La Land
A Maximally LA Experience
This week’s Nyx pic is Disappointed Nyx, bc I had to leave him in Seattle as I traveled to LA to take care of some errands and various things in town. 😭
As of today, March 1, I’ve been in LA for only 4 days, and it’s already been a Very LA Experience, for better and worse. Some highlights below:
Getting off the plane and immediately going to my favorite ramen spot, where the server still remembered me and my order from when I was a regular 😭
Going to a screening of The Power of the Dog that had a talkback w the main cast after, including Benedict Cumberbatch and Kirsten Dunst
Losing my phone in a Lyft which led to the painful realizations that 1) every method of getting anywhere or contacting anyone was now gone, and 2) logging into any accounts that could contact the driver required verifying my identity… via my phone. I managed to walk to a friend’s house who luckily lived nearby, and he was able to help me begin to try to track down the driver and/or hack into my own accounts. This ultimately led to me buying and then returning a brand new iphone just to be able to log into the Lyft app to contact the driver and get my old phone back.
eating KBBQ.
Being a wifi hobo in a Starbucks to get some work done and have a Zoom call.
Running into an Austin friend who had moved to Seattle who then moved to LA, who told me about their podcast and invited me to guest on it ✨
Enjoying the 80 degree weather and feeling grateful to briefly escape the cold and rainy times in Seattle (bonus Nyx pic from my friend who is dogsitting)
Meeting up w a screenwriter friend and catching up for hours only to be interrupted by a woman who had sat next to us for the whole duration of our chat who suddenly said “excuse me, are you two… film people? Can I give you my card?” And getting handed a headshot postcard w a QR code to her reel before either my friend or I could explain that neither of us had anything to do with casting.
Eating tacos.
I’m here two more days and I genuinely can’t tell if I’m excited or exhausted to be here already. (Both? Probably both.)
Oh, LA. 💙
