Writing a novel, 200 words at a time.
Writing is hard.
There are so many tools and tricks and software promising to make it easier. And some genuinely do. But at the end of the day, the only way to write is to sit down and write. One word at a time.
Or perhaps 200 words at a time.
The idea is simple: in contrast with high intensity exercises or cadences that set a high daily word count goal, the commitment is to just write 200 words a day. By making it a very low and easy number, it’s easier to commit to putting at least that many words down on the page, and thus make slow but steady progress towards completion.
Weekly (ish) updates.
My plan is to write 200 words a day for five days a week. Then on Friday, I’ll be rounding up the 1000 or so words of the past week and posting it here, likely along with a short blurb reflecting on the process.
In between, there might be sporadic updates and drabbles and thoughts peppered throughout.
Who are you?
I’m Yichao. I’m a writer, creative director, and jack of all trades nerd currently based in Seattle, Washington.
Some of y’all are here because we’ve crossed paths in the games industry. Others might know me from theater, improv, and film/voiceover work. If you go far enough back in the archives here, you’ll find articles that touch on those topics and areas of interest. If you’re more interested in those arenas than in reading a story about a weird lil’ frog, you can find me on LinkedIn and various other social channels.
